Thrive Content

There is such a variety of important issues related to teen relationships and sexuality that the THRIVE Ottawa program can’t possibly address them all! The content we have included in our 2 or 3 class format covers some of the key areas that deserve more play-time/explanation with adolescents. The curriculum aims to supplement education requirements in Healthy Living and Healthy Active Living courses and includes Catholic values, thereby providing a tangible resource to Ottawa teachers.

Although the main topics remain the same among each grade, depth of information and areas of focus change in order to be age-appropriate and relevant to the issues being dealt with at different grade levels. Topics covered include healthy relationship characteristics, communication, values/goals, media/peer influences, emotional impact of sex, abstinence, pregnancy, STIs, self-worth/respect, and more.

The THRIVE curriculum for Gr. 9-10 is designed for two 70-minute classes. For Gr. 7-8, the content is arranged best for three 40-50 minute periods. Two class presentations for Gr. 7-8 are also available upon request. We care about what your needs are within the class, and when booking a presentation, please feel free to let us know specific issues that are most important to you!

The THRIVE Ottawa curriculum fits under several of the Ontario Ministry of Education course requirements for Grades 7-8 Healthy Living and Grades 9-12 Healthy Active Living Education classes. Please check out the Education Requirements section for more information.
